Team Liquid stayed alive in the LCS Spring playoffs with a 3-1 defeat of FlyQuest in the lower-bracket semifinal on Saturday in Los Angeles.
That leaves Liquid as one of just three teams left in the event, awaiting the loser of Sunday's upper-bracket final between LYON and Cloud9 in the lower-bracket final.
Eight teams competed in the best-of-three matches in the round-robin regular season, with the top six advancing to the playoffs of the League of Legends event. The double-elimination playoffs are all best-of-five matches in a double-elimination format.
The top two teams will qualify for this summer's Mid-Season Invitational in Daejeon, South Korea, while the winner also gets a trip to the Esports World Cup in Paris in July.
Liquid and FlyQuest split the opening two games of their match, with Liquid winning the opener on red in 41 minutes and FlyQuest responding with a 26-minute triumph on red. Team Liquid put away the match, though, with a 28-minute victory on red and a clinching 33-minute win on blue.
Hyeon-seung 'Quid' Lim of South Korea was MVP of each of the final two games for Liquid, finishing the match with a 13-8-25 kill-death-assist ratio. Yong-in 'CoreJJ' Jo, also from South Korea, was MVP of the first win for Liquid, finishing with a match-high 41 assists. Turkey's Ibrahim 'GaKGoS' Bulut earned the MVP honor for FlyQuest's lone win, finishing the match with a 13-12-15 K-D-A ratio.
This week's action concludes with Sunday's upper-bracket final. The loser of that match will face Team Liquid in the lower-bracket final on June 13, with the winner of that facing the upper-bracket final winner in June 14's grand final.
