BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
SATELLITE LAUNCH
China on Thursday sent a new satellite into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
The Shiyan-11 satellite was launched by a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket at 7:41 a.m. (Beijing Time) and entered the planned orbit.
The satellite will be mainly used for land surveys, urban planning, crop yield estimation and disaster prevention and mitigation.
OFFSHORE WIND FARM
The last phase of China's first offshore wind power project with foreign investment has started supplying electricity in the sea off Dongtai City, east China's Jiangsu Province.
The last phase of the project, around 37 km off the coast, has an installed capacity of 200 megawatts and 50 wind turbines, according to Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd., under China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy).
The project, with a total investment of 8 billion yuan (about 1.3 billion U.S. dollars), is jointly developed by China Energy and French energy giant EDF Group.
3D-PRINTED HOUSE
A rural house in north China's Hebei Province has been catapulted into fame recently. For one thing, it was not built brick by brick but constructed scan by scan with giant 3D printers.
With vaulted ceilings and concrete outer walls decorated by weave patterns, the house in Wujiazhuang Village of Zhangjiakou, the co-host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics, covers an area of 106 square meters and boasts three bedrooms, a kitchen and a restroom.
At the construction site, 3D-printing robotic arms built up concrete materials layer by layer to form the foundation and walls. After the roof was printed separately, it was put on the wall by a crane. The construction of the house was completed in two weeks.
