Paula Badosa announced over social media on Thursday that she tested positive for COVID-19.
The 23-year-old was forced to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine in her hotel room after being on a charter flight from Abu Dhabi to Melbourne, Australia, with someone who tested positive for the virus.
"I have some bad news," Badosa wrote on Twitter in both Spanish and English. "Today I received a positive COVID-19 test result. I'm feeling unwell and have some symptoms, but I'll try to recover as soon as possible listening to the doctors. I've been taken to a health hotel to self isolate and be monitored."
Badosa, who was born in New York but lives in Spain, reached the fourth round at the French Open in October. She currently is ranked 67th in the world.
The Australian Open, delayed by the pandemic, is scheduled to start Feb. 8.
